natureplus Europe Event Series 2021

Date: 12th-22nd October   Time: Various timings   Location:

“How to Build Climate Protection – Sustainable Materials and Carbon Sequestration”

Join ASBP, natureplus and its partners for a European-wide event series on “How to Build Climate Protection” from 12 to 22 October 2021. Meet building professionals, academics, and material experts from across Europe, online or in person. During the web seminars, web conferences, site visits and exhibitions, you will have the opportunity to learn:

  •     About the environmental impacts of the major structural construction materials
  •     What advantages bio-based materials offer, in regards to carbon sequestration & healthy living
  •     Which tools and policies recognise and encourage carbon sequestration

In November 2021, the spotlight will be on Glasgow for the 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26). Will the world’s leaders be able to accelerate their efforts we so urgently need to achieve the climate targets agreed upon in Paris in 2015?

The role of the construction industry in contributing to climate change must not be underestimated, with the building and construction sector contributing 38% of global CO2 emissions in 2019 (equaling 9.95 gigatons of CO2!). In order to leverage the sector’s huge carbon reduction potential, we must go further than just improving the operational energy efficiency of buildings. We have to focus on reducing the environmental impacts of building materials, from extraction and manufacture through to end-of-life.

Building Climate Protection

natureplus and the national representatives Agrodome, ASBP, Baubioswiss, EOS, IBO as well as VIBE invite you to a 10 day event series focusing on building materials that help build climate protection. Across six events, building experts will discuss how to reduce the environmental impacts of building materials and how to leverage their potential further by taking into account carbon sequestration.

Get in touch with the initative “Bauhaus der Erde” at the kick-off symposium. Here the carbon capture potential as offered by bio-based materials will be the main topic. The Alliance of Sustainable Building Products will reflect on the steps made by major players in the construction products industry regarding environmental impacts by hosting a web seminar called Future Footprints. Finally, a discussion among Austrian building professionals will reveal how the Austrian cement industry sees its role in the climate crisis and its contribution to solve it.

In addition, in-person site visits and exhibitions will demonstrate that usability, appealing design and sustainability go hand in hand, proving that ecological building materials are the material of choice for both now, and in the future.

This event series is generously supported by sponsors Baufritz & GUTEX.
