On Friday 2nd July, we held the inaugural Neil May MBE Memorial Lecture.
Neil May was an inspiration to many and helped shape the development of many of our SDF Alliance partners: the ASBP, the Good Homes Alliance, Passivhaus Trust and STBA, in addition with his work at UCL’s Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering, and co-founding the UK Centre for Moisture in Buildings.
The introduction to the session included a reflection from Gary Newman on Neil’s life and achievements, followed by the lecture and an insightful Q&A.
Our guest speakers were Karel Williams and Julie Froud, both professors at Manchester Business School. They spoke to the hundred-strong audience about Foundational Economy, a subject which would have intrigued Neil, and inspired us all to think about broad societal challenges and how we might influence some of these in our work in the built environment.
If you would like to watch or share a recording of the event, it can be found here: https://player.vimeo.com/video/577648918.
The Neil May lecture will become an annual event and will be hosted in 2022 by the UCL Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering.
