Bereco seek to develop first plastic free windows and doors

ASBP Patron and Plastics Working Group member Bereco was founded in 2003 with the aim of ‘Delivering the Difference’ and becoming the benchmark company for external joinery in the UK. Bereco manufacture sustainably sourced timber windows and doors that are designed and manufactured to the highest standards in quality, performance and security.

A challenge that we are faced with is finding suitable alternatives to plastic packaging that will not have an impact on product quality or cause issues on site, not only in terms of product handling and storage but also to ensure we are compliant with our customers environmental aims and waste management requirements.

Another issue is with certain product components. All of our products are manufactured using 100% FSC® certified timber however some of the components and hardware that is used, and used throughout the fenestration industry, has only been developed to suit the requirements of uPVC fabricators and as such are only available made from various forms of plastic. We have an aim of producing the first plastic-free windows and doors for the UK fenestration market and are carrying out extensive R&D to achieve this goal.”
