From the old Scot’s word ‘makar‘ representing creativity, quality and workmanship MAKAR offer an architect-led design and build service delivering contemporary ecological homes with these inherent characteristics.
From our offices and workshop in Inverness, led by architect Neil Sutherland and incorporating Neil Sutherland Architects LLP; our integrated service includes architectural design, specialist off-site manufacturing and on-site construction to completion. For clients and self builders this means greater control over building projects from start to finish, resulting in greater certainty that projects will be delivered on time and within budget.
MAKAR specialise in the use of Scottish timber and other natural materials to make energy efficient buildings that are appropriate to our client needs as well as the surrounding landscape. To date we have completed more than 50 buildings throughout Scotland using our own natural structural insulated closed panels manufactured in our Inverness workshop. Using this system, a MAKAR house can now arrive on site and be constructed to wind and watertight within an average of 3 days.
We believe in delivering healthy and inspiring homes that are sensitive to the environment. Produced by a local workforce, MAKAR support the Scottish economy by sourcing high quality materials from our network of the best suppliers. Our commitment to using homegrown timber has kept the company at the forefront of pioneering work to further the application of this resource, which is apparent in the bespoke architecture we produce.
