Martha Lewis is Head of Materials at Henning Larsen, where she established an office-wide material database identifying healthy, ethical, and environmentally tenable materials. She has recently launched a carbon literacy course for architects, “Unboxing Carbon,” communicating the essentials of decarbonization to the architecture industry in Denmark and abroad. Martha is involved in establishing a European material passport and was a member of the Buildings as Material Banks shareholders network, working to establish an EU material passport. Currently she represents the Danish Association of Architectural Firms in the CEN350 Committee establishing Circularity Standards. In 2016, she participated in the advisory group for the Danish EPA’s “Undesirable Substances in Sustainable Buildings,” and has published two conference papers on hazardous content in Danish and Nordic building products. In 2019 she received Denmark Building Green’s ”Sustainable Element” person of the year prize. Martha holds a Master of Architecture from Washington University and a Bachelor of Arts from Vassar College.
