Craft Design Construction

CDC Craft Design Construction is a supplier of sustainably sourced materials and products made in Portugal, including cork flooring, cork products, and rugs handwoven with cork and left over textiles from the manufacturing of clothing.

Cork is one of the most sustainable and natural materials known to man. Axes are used to carefully remove the bark from the tree - a process known as 'stripping'. As a result no trees are felled, and the cork tree can live for 200 years. This not only benefits us now but enriches future generations. Not only is cork great for its sustainability and low carbon footprint, it has good thermal comfort and helps protect against allergies due to its unique cellular structure that doesnโ€™t absorb dust.

The cork industry is the backbone to Portugalโ€™s rural way of life, supporting some 9,000 direct jobs and at least 6,500 indirect jobs in the agroforestry system. The local cork industry encourages people to settle in their rural communities, avoiding depopulation and supporting farmers, beekeeping and the production of aromatic and medicinal plants and mushrooms.

Other materials supplied by CDC Craft Design Construction include Viroc Cement Bonded Particle Board, and Hydraulic Cement tiles. Also furniture and lighting by architects รlvaro Siza Vieria and Eduardo Souto de Moura.
