Understanding LCAs – What Life Cycle Analyses reveal about bio-based materials

Date: Wednesday 28th September    Time: 12:00-12:45 (BST)   Location: Online

About this event

Throughout the entire life cycle, the process and operation of building construction consumes a huge amount of materials while causing high levels of CO2 emissions. The selection and use of sustainable building materials plays an important role to help reduce this carbon footprint. The topic of this natureplus Late Lunch session is Life Cycle Anylysis (LCA). Life cycle analysis has been used in the building sector for more than 30 years and is an important tool for assessing environmental impacts. By identifying and quantifying energy and materials used and wastes released to the environment over the whole life cycle, LCAs also offer a framework to decide about the right use of sustainable building materials.
The event will feature speakers from natureplus partner, Stichting Agrodome.

About the natureplus Late Lunch Sessions 2022

The construction sector is responsible for around 40% of global CO2 emissions, making it one of the most resource-intensive sectors of the economy – and one of the biggest levers in terms of climate protection. A turnaround in construction has therefore never been more important than it is today. But there can be no turnaround in construction without a turnaround in building materials, and that only works with sustainable building materials.

But what actually makes a building material sustainable and how can you find the right building material for your own project? What does healthy living have to do with sustainable building, how do you build in a cycle and why is retrofitting so important?

These topics and many more aspect of sustainable building will be examined by natureplus together with various experts during the natureplus Late Lunch Sessions 2022: Transforming the Building Sector with Sustainable Building Materials. These compact 45-minute lasting sessions take place monthly as of May 2022, always on a Wednesday 2rom 13:00 to 12:45 BST and offer an overview ove the most important aspects of sustainable building.

Whether consumers, planners or builders – this series is aimed at everyone who is interested in sustainable building and sustainable building materials and is looking for the right introduction to these topics. Two sessions are offered in English language, the rest will be held in German.
