This event is part of the natureplus late lunch sessions 2022
Most of the buildings we will use in 2050 are already built today. We will not be able to achieve the climate protection goals with demolition and new construction, because this destroys valuable resources and causes additional emissions. Instead we need to dedicate ourselves to the existing buildings and make them fit for a climate-neutral or, even better, climate-positive future. Hence retrofitting existing buildings is THE building task of the future. This natureplus late lunch session will reflect on the importance of retrofitting existing buildings by presenting the award winning UK Network SuperHomes operated by The National Energy Foundation (NEF). A network which was set up to spread awareness about how household CO2 emissions could be reduced by bringing together individuals, the so called “SuperHomers”, who have refurbished their homes to the highest standards of energy efficiency with sustainable and low energy measures and materials. In 2021 NEF introduced a new rating scheme for SuperHomes which provides a benchmark of retrofit achievement.
