About this year’s NFI Summit event
Join the Alliance for Sustainable Building Products and the ASBP Natural Fibre Insulation Group for the opening event of the inaugural Natural Fibre Insulation Week.
The format for this year’s Natural Fibre Insulation Summit is a lively debate session taking place on Monday 14th October, 1-2pm, online. Join us for this hour long lunchtime event as we discuss the key issues facing the construction, housebuilding and retrofit sectors, and debate how natural fibre insulation (NFI) can be a key part of the solution.
- The new Labour government has committed to building 370,000 homes per year. However, it has been estimated that the maximum number of new homes that can be built within the carbon budget per year for the whole of Europe would be around 176,000. So do we really need to build so many new homes? And what role can natural fibre products and systems play in helping to meet housing need in the UK?
- The UK has some of most energy inefficient housing stock in western Europe with an estimate 29 million homes in need of retrofit by 2050. How can the unique characteristics of NFI help us meet the ‘retrofit challenge’?
- The tragic case of Awaab Ishak, who died in 2020 as a direct result of exposure to hazardous mould in his home, has shone the spotlight on the importance of effective moisture control and ventilation to ensure good indoor environment quality. How can NFI help deliver healthier, mould-free homes for all?
- Natural fibre insulation currently has a market share of c.1% in the UK, compared to c.10% in France and Germany. What steps are needed to scale up NFI in the UK? Where could we be in 5 years’ time?
- On 30th October 2024, the Chancellor will deliver the Autumn Budget. What initiatives would we like to see announced to support growth of the NFI and bio-based product sectors?

Natural Fibre Insulation Week is an exciting new showcase of natural fibre insulation (NFI) products and systems, organised by the Alliance for Sustainable Building Products and supported by the ASBP Natural Fibre Insulation Group.
#NFIWeek2024 will provide architects, designers, specifiers, contractors and clients with access to some of the leading industry experts from the ASBP Natural Fibre Insulation Group, which includes the major manufacturers and suppliers of natural fibre insulation in the UK.
NFI Week is an opportunity to find out more about the multiple benefits of natural fibre insulation, get hands-on with NFI via practical demonstrations, and embark on tours of production facilities and site visits.
The event showcase will feature a series of regional in-person events throughout the week, hosted by members of the ASBP Natural Fibre Insulation Group.
