Sustainability terminology is ever-growing and it is becoming increasingly difficult for consumers and professionals to understand and differentiate between “eco-terms”. Greenwashing via the use of inappropriate or inaccurate terminology undermines consumer trust and hinders progress towards genuine sustainable development and refurbishment. This paper explores a number of terms commonly used, sometimes misleadingly, by suppliers and manufacturers in the paints and finishes industry.
