Study shows significant environmental benefits of reused steel tubes

ASBP Patron member Cleveland Steel and Tubes Ltd has conducted a comparative analysis of the environmental impacts of reused and virgin steel tubes. The results are detailed in a report (please download summary report below) which details the life cycle analysis (LCA) of the recovery, treatment, distribution and reuse of coated steel tubes by Cleveland Steel and Tubes Ltd (CST) compared to prime (virgin) steel and recycled product.

The tubes are recovered predominantly from the steel, oil and gas industry and shipped to CST’s North Yorkshire treatment facility to be refurbished, before being sold on again for use.

The results show that Cleveland Steel’s reused steel tubes present significant environmental benefits over equivalent virgin steel tubes, with indicative savings on average of 96% in global warming potential (GWP).
