ASBP supports the ACAN Circular Economy Policy Campaign

ASBP is delighted to join ACAN and UK Architects Declare as an official supporter of the ACAN Circular Economy Policy Campaign.

ASBP Director and Reuse Now lead, Debbie Ward, was an early consultee of this policy campaign. The ACAN Circular Economy Group are pleased to have Debbie on board, valuing ASBP’s work on “education and upskilling, engagement with the supply chain and promotion of reused construction materials”. ACAN sees ASBP a catalyst for circular economy in the industry, with a shared vision that aligns with the campaign’s mission.

The Circular Economy Policy Campaign 2025 is a bold call for national policy reforms to embed circular economy principles across the entire lifecycle of the built environment addressed to the UK Government Circular Economy Task Force.

Key Demands

The campaign is demanding national laws that make circular building the norm, not the exception.

  • Make manufacturers responsible across the full product lifecycle
  • Add durability/adaptability rules to Building Regs (Part A)
  • Approve & embed Circular Economy targets in Part Z
  • Require CE statements + pre-demo audits in planning (nationwide)
  • Track reuse % of existing buildings across all design stages
  • Make pre-demolition audits mandatory for all projects
  • Give tax breaks for using reclaimed materials
  • Apply circular standards to all public procurement
  • Fund a UK-wide reuse hub network
  • Publish CE guidelines for architects, engineers, and contractors

We urge individuals and companies to sign on and back this campaign. Your voice will help drive the policy changes we urgently need.
