Reuse and the UK Steel Strategy – Talking heads with Cleveland Steel & Tubes

Date: Tuesday 9th June 2026   Time: 12:00-13:00   Location: Online (Zoom)

Summary

The UK Government’s new UK Steel Strategy sets out an ambitious plan to strengthen domestic steel production, protect critical supply chains and accelerate the transition to lower‑carbon steel. But alongside primary production, the strategy also raises important questions about the role of steel reuse, circularity, carbonand material efficiency.

In this Talking Heads session, Roy Fishwick, Managing Director of Cleveland Steel and Tubes, joins ASBP’s Dr Katherine Adams for conversation on how reuse‑focused business models fit within the UK Steel Strategy. Drawing on Cleveland Steel and Tubes’ long‑standing leadership in reclaimed and reused steel, Roy will explore how reuse steel products can reduce embodied carbon, cut waste and support resilience across construction and infrastructure supply chains. The conservation will also look at other potential issues raised from the Strategy such as procuring recycled content steel, supply and demand and related costs.

Together, Roy and Katherine will discuss how policy, practice and market demand need to align to unlock the full potential of a circular steel economy. The session will offer practical insight for specifiers, designers, policymakers and industry professionals interested learning more about where reuse sits in the UK Steel Strategy.
