Why Reuse Now…? In the next 10 minutes globally:
We will extract 50,000 tonnes of iron ore.
5 million bricks will be produced.
The construction, demolition, and excavation industry will create 38,000 tonnes of waste.
And in one year the global construction industry emits approximately 10 gigatonnes of CO2 – the equivalent of around 30 million Boeing 747 jets.
We cannot achieve Net Zero targets without using circular economy strategies and solutions to reduce embodied carbon. The Alliance for Sustainable Building Products (ASBP) is leading a targeted effort to champion a circular economy through its Reuse Now campaign. This initiative promotes the reuse of construction materials and aims to enable uptake of reuse through collaboration and the creation of practical resources.
At our annual ASBP Reuse Summit, you’ll hear from leading experts in the materials reuse field. The event will feature panel discussions and presentations, offering in-depth exploration of key topics such as material passports, pre-demolition audits, the infrastructure required for logistics, processing and storage, and how important demolition and strip-out expertise is in making reclamation and reuse possible. This in-person event provides a valuable opportunity for learning, knowledge sharing, and networking, with the aim of driving greater adoption of reuse practices within the construction industry.
