Richard is the lead of Cullinan Studio’s Midlands studio, an exciting initiative which is allowing the practice to build on the strength of completed and current projects they have across the region.
Richard loves being a project architect. He fundamentally believes architecture enriches the fabric of our lives, should be for all and is optimistic that a lot can be achieved with very little, by making the right strategic decisions and focussing on necessity, whilst instilling delight.
A passion for fair and equitable ways of doing things is what attracted Richard to Cullinan Studio; enjoying a voice within the collective, and its ethical approach to commercial practice.
Richard is energised by collaboration with clients and design teams alike and the process of collectively nurturing architecture into being. He brings an intellectual rigour and analytical process to projects, ensuring design solutions are not pre-determined, but contextual responses that focus on the integration of high quality and sustainable design.
Heavily involved in architectural education at the University of Nottingham, Richard reaps the rewards from the cross fertilisation of ideas and opportunities between academic teaching and his work in the Studio.
His teaching focuses on passive environmental & biophilic design, urban planning of post-war new towns and supporting practice-based research.
