Woodknowledge Wales: Wood material structure and properties

Date: Wednesday, 21st October 2026   Time: 12:00-13:30   Location: Online

One of seven expert-led webinars in the Timber 101 series, which will explore understanding timber – from tree to specification.

The Timber 101 series is a free, expert-led introduction to timber as a construction material, helping individuals make informed and assured choices in the construction sector. From architects and engineers, foresters and timber frame manufacturers, to contractors, students and DIY builders, this series is open to anyone looking to understand how timber works – and how to use it well.

Across seven webinars, participants will study timber, tracing its journey from natural growth to its detailed use and function in construction. Topics include tree growth and commercial species, timber structure and properties, grading and durability, moisture behaviour, and perceptions of quality.

Each webinar stands alone but together they form a comprehensive foundation in selecting, specifying, and applying timber appropriately.
