An in-person Ty Mawr training day suitable for anyone involved in specification or product selection of traditional and sustainable building materials. It will provide an excellent opportunity to share some of the latest product and systems innovation, and give the participants the opportunity to discuss and share their own projects with the group.
This course will cover:
-
- Key drivers and motivation for insulating older properties.
- Understanding and restoring traditional performance, as a prerequisite for thermal improvements.
- Looking beyond U-Values at other useful properties of insulation, including decrement delay and summer cooling, thermal mass and thermal damping.
- Understanding and achieving breathability.
- Practical options for insulating solid walls (internally and externally), solid and suspended floors, as well as roofs.
- The importance of incorporating airtightness as part of the insulation strategy.
- Case studies.
Ty-Mawr’s training centre is based in a beautiful complex of Grade II* listed buildings, formerly a farmstead, in the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park in Mid Wales. The refurbished Training Centre was opened on 22nd June 2009 by Their Royal Highnesses, The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall. The site is still the family home of the founders of Ty-Mawr, Nigel and Joyce Gervis and their children, and is an ongoing restoration project.
