Seminar Sessions

Join the ASBP for two sessions on the Buildings stage on Wednesday 13th May:

15:15 Regenerative Materials and Fire Safety: Building Confidence in Low-Carbon Construction

Organised and convened by ASBP, this session will update the audience on two recently completed research projects. The first is looking at how fixings behave under fire in mass timber buildings, with solutions presented based on a raft of testing at the FPA, funded by the Fire Services Research Training Trust, with a view to preventing possible entanglement. The second project is researching how sprinklers can enable more low carbon biogenic buildings and assist with enabling cost effective insurance. Plus a look at sprinkler systems whole life carbon impacts and how they compare to the likely M&E and whole building totals . Seb Laan Lomas will update us on the latest Eurocode 5 publication and how products can be deemed to satisfy and share his experience of designing with biogenic products. Together, the panel will address common concerns around fire safety and outline practical routes to delivering safe, insurable and regenerative construction at scale.

16:15 Scaling Up Regenerative Materials

This seminar, organised by the Alliance for Sustainable Building Products and the ASBP Natural Fibre Insulation Group, and chaired by Churchill Fellowship award winner Ele George, will explore how regenerative and bio-based materials are moving from niche applications into mainstream construction. John Ferguson, Founder & CTO at Sisalwool, will share manufacturer insights on scaling natural fibre insulation production, quality and market readiness. Antoinette Oni, Founder & CEO of Agreka Build, an award-winning manufacturer of bio-based building materials and a previous Futurebuild Big Innovation Pitch winner, will discuss scaling innovative products from concept to market. Chris Brookman, Founder and MD of Back to Earth, will bring a practitioner perspective from a specialist supplier of sustainable and breathable building materials, sharing lessons from project support, one-to-one technical guidance and training that help teams specify and deliver regenerative materials with confidence.
