What if the carbon stored in timber and other biogenic materials could be measured, certified and traded as a real climate asset?
Biogenic materials such as timber contain carbon that has been removed from the atmosphere and stored within products and buildings. There is growing interest in how this stored carbon can be properly accounted for, independently verified and recognised as a meaningful climate benefit.
This webinar brings together some of the organisations developing new approaches in this area. Grown in Britain’s Biogenic Stored Carbon Quotient (BSCQ) provides an independently verified way to quantify long-term carbon stored in buildings, while Woodknowledge Wales’ ROOT to Market is creating new routes to market for regenerative and low-carbon materials. Alongside this, Woodknowledge Wales is exploring how stored carbon in timber could become a tradable asset, connecting those with stored carbon to buyers of the resulting carbon credits.
Hear from experts behind these initiatives, as well as an update from the BioComposites Centre at Bangor University on the latest developments in LCA and procurement. The session will consider what these approaches could mean for the future of carbon accounting, procurement and construction.
