AECB Webinar: Realistically reducing carbon and retaining heritage to pre-1945 homes

This talk discusses a research project which examined multiple aspects of vernacular homes to examine how to substantially reduce carbon emissions while retaining their important heritage values. Aspects examined included: residents’ views, values, behaviours and comfort perceptions; how these buildings’ real performance was reflected in various modelling tools; and the lifecycle carbon of potential retrofit measures both individually and in packages. This mixed methods approach led to useful conclusions about the importance of holistic retrofit approaches and their implications will be discussed.
