GREEN TILES ANNEXE
Green Tiles Annexe is a light and airy free-standing extension to an existing timber bungalow on the back of the dunes at Happisburgh on the Norfolk coast, looking out over fields and wide skies. It replaces an old caravan to provide self-contained cosy accommodation all year round.
Everything – including the timber frame, windows, doors and fixed furniture – was self-built over three years of weekends. It follows breathable construction principles with cellulose and woodfibre insulation. From railway sleeper foundations to furniture made of offcuts, it reuses materials and components as far as possible, giving remarkably low embodied carbon – and cost only ยฃ25,000 to build.
