Seb Laan Lomas

Seb plays a central role in Architype’s timber and fire working group, with extensive knowledge about the current challenges and opportunities that the industry faces and has an extensive understanding of embodied carbon design, assessment, and regulation.

He sits on various timber industry groups including the England Government’s Inter-departmental Timber in Construction working group and the Timber Development UK’s sustainability committee and carbon sub-committee.  He has peer-reviewed publications including the TDUK paper on assessing the carbon-related impacts and benefits of timber in construction products and buildings.

He joined Architype in 2021 and is an expert in sustainable design and policy, contributing to industry initiatives to decarbonise construction.  Seb is involved in various practice research initiatives on building performance evaluation, embodied carbon and structural timber.  He has worked with the City of Edinburgh Council on their EnerPHit-informed retrofit plan to decarbonise their portfolio of existing buildings.

Seb is qualified as an architect and Certified Passivhaus Designer, and studied at the University of Cambridge and the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales.
