The SKArating for Offices environmental assessment scheme has entered a new phase of development, with updated proposals now open for public consultation. Developed through a year of in-depth research and stakeholder engagement, the proposed changes aim to ensure the scheme remains a relevant and powerful tool for driving sustainable office fit-outs in the UK.
What is SKArating?
“SKArating helps landlords and tenants assess their interior fit-out and refurbishment projects against a set of environmental good practice criteria, and part of wider sustainability goals. In this hub everyone involved in a project can find all of the resources and tools needed to help engage, use, and assess with the SKArating schemes.”
Key updates to the scheme focus on aligning with the UK Net Zero Building Standard, increasing the focus on circularity, and reflecting current good practice benchmarks. A significant structural change includes the removal of the Wellbeing category, in preparation for a new, standalone Social & Wellbeing for Offices assessment scheme set to begin development in Q2 2025.
Stakeholders are invited to review the proposed Good Practice Measures (GPMs) and share their feedback via an online form or by contacting the SKArating team directly. In addition, a series of free online briefing sessions will be held over the coming weeks, offering an opportunity to learn more about the reasoning behind the updates and contribute directly to the consultation process.
These sessions include:
- Materials & Resource Management Briefing
- Energy Briefing
- Assessor Briefing
The update is part of SKArating’s broader Roadmap to 2030, which outlines a commitment to more frequent updates and stronger alignment with evolving industry standards and client expectations.
The consultation closes 9th June 2025. To download the proposed GPMs, register for a session, or provide your feedback, visit https://ska-rating-training.thinkific.com/pages/offices-public-consultation
