Dr. Caroline Thurner
Caroline is lead researcher at IBO, the Austrian Institute for Healthy and Ecological Building, founded in 1980, with the aim of providing topical information on the impact of buildings on human health and well-being and on the environment.
Caroline is a chemist by training with a specialisation in the toxicological aspects of the ingredients of building products, assisting the Austrian government with their legal classifications. She is also involved with REACH and the European Chemicals agency, with real experience and insight on its decision making processes.
Caroline will introduce Baubook, a tool designed to assist with selection and procurement of healthy products. Criteria can be selected and laid down in tender documentation. Products must be independently tested to meet the criteria before being selected. Implementation is controlled on site and the building is tested at completion.
Caroline will discuss baubook – a database for ecologic buildings: materials, construction and evaluation.
