Products containing gypsum, cement, timber or insulation are responsible for 65% of Travis Perkin’s supply chain emissions (only 2% of their impact is direct, the rest from their suppliers). These cover 10% of UK construction product sales, so this is likely to be significant.
Travis Perkins Group require companies who supply them with insulation products and products containing gypsum, cement and wood to:
- Provide them with an ISO:14025 compliant EPD which uses appropriate product category rules, and which identifies lifecycle carbon-equivalent emissions, water and energy use, and waste creation.
- Demonstrate clear, actionable and time-bound plans to reduce these lifecycle impacts at a rate and a degree consistent with international efforts to limit global warming to well below 2oC. In addition, they’ll require all suppliers to provide them with an EPD as part our new product introduction process, where applicable.
They state;

By managing the impacts of our supply chain we can reduce the risks related to them, capture opportunities to reduce our costs and make our own business more sustainable and better prepared for the future.”
